#NOMORETHICKWATER is HOPE International Development Agency's big solution this summer.

The story of "thick water" begins in the remote highlands of Ethiopia with a mother and water.

Standing at the spot where she fills a 20 kg container with drinking water for her family, a mother describes the water. When translated, the water was referred to as "thick water". The water is thick because it's full of dirt, debris, and other contaminants, including dissolved waste from animals who share the same water source.

I wouldn't drink "thick water" and I don't think mothers and children should either.

I'm part of #NOMORETHICKWATER and am fundraising to help families in Kole Zale and Kole Kanchame, Ethiopia because living with dirty water means you're living in fear that the next sip could make you sick. Living without hope because you can't earn enough money to support your family means that you can't even dream that tomorrow will be better.

Every $100 raised:

Gives one person access to clean water, right in their community
Helps establish a self-help group that supports mothers in creating and running small businesses that provide a reliable income they can use to buy food, clothing, medicine when needed, household essentials, and send their kids to school.

ABOUT KOLE ZALE AND KOLE KANCHAME

The two communities are located in the rugged highlands of southern Ethiopia, Africa
Mothers, often accompanied by their children, walk 2 - 3 hours a day in search of water
The water families drink comes from dirty springs, streams, and ponds frequented by animals
Mothers want to provide more for the children, but they lack the knowledge, skills, resources, and support needed to create reliable incomes
